Podating?
After submitting my first podcast to Liam Burke's Podhost Gmail accountdirectly from my Nokia 6630 mobile phone it occured to me that when podcasting is made that simple it could open up a whole new market.
For instance, instead of phoning in expensive voice messages to RTE's Aertel Dating service why not submit them for (nearly) free to the Podhost Gmail account or other podcast hosting service. I certainly wouldn't mind subscribing to an RSS feed of voice messages from all the eligible sexy ladies in the mid-west region, for streaming into my MP3 player ;-)
Seriously though, with no meter running or time limit it would give lonely hearts some time to describe themselves and what they're looking for in a potential partner or date. And it needn't be a once off message, one chance to impress and one only. No, it could be a daily or weekly update whereby potential soul mates can get a chance to know you and respond.
Purists will argue that submitting audio files to a GMail account can't really be labelled 'podcasting' since there is no way of automatically downloading the email attachments via RRS enclosure or syncing with your MP3 player, but I still think its a valid and interesting experiment.

A superb idea, one which will probably happen in podland in the near future because of the massive potential. Maybe even extend it to where a group swap number and send mms (voice clips -maybe picture) to each other while they are getting to know each other, like google groups expect over the phone, people could respond to what other people have said until they really find someone with the same interests etc.
Most people would say why not just ring each other or text, well people are always shy at first and fumble around wondering what to say and somethings in texts can sound to pushy or forward because it's not spoken.
Someone register podating.com (it's registered! - and so is poddating.com) Maybe your wish to hear sexy singles will come true soon.

It's already regsitered?!?! :(
Guess I'll have to come up with something more original so!
Another benefit is the privacy aspect of podcasting in this manner - if I were to do it I would setup a dedicated blog and extract the MP3s/AMRs/WAVs from the GMail account so that no email address info accompanies the podcast post. Interested parties could carry on a follow up conversation with the lovecaster in the comments section of the post and contact details could eventually be shared there or via the blog host acting as a third party.
