Doc Searls points to an idea that cartoonist extraordinaire Hugh MacLeod calls an Open-Source Craiglist for Bloggers. The problem is its based on a Wiki architecture. Now I'm a compulsive sampler of new web technologies but I've never yet created nor seen the need to build a Wiki. I love Wikipedia and find a select other few Wikis of use but there's something about them that just doesn't feel right to me for many of the projects to which they are enlisted.
So while Hugh has the right idea I think he has the wrong implementation entirely. He should build this out on a system of open tagging a la Technorati tags or del.icio.us whereby bloggers don't need to go submit a Wiki pointer after posting to their journal. Everything should be centered on the blog and web intelligence should be programmed to find it. Duplication of effort in making Wiki entries is much too manual.

I agree- tags are key to this long term. Luckily, I have a plan ;-)

That's good to hear Hugh. I've been watching the development of
http://thingamy.com/
with interest and that's why I was surprised to find that you'd base this on a Wiki. I LOVE what Thingamy does and think if you based your 'opensource craigslist' on it you'd have a huge hit on your hands :)
