Wanted: more geek get-togethers in Ireland
Robert Scoble notes that barcamp has been hit by the tagmob, particularly on flickr. Why can't we have more geek get-togethers like this in Ireland? It looks like fun. Add what better way of networking?
By the way, who spotted the graffitti on this photo which seems to include on Riana's list of cool things - barcampers with beautiful Irish names. Huh?

» Great Gael Geek Get-togethers from Damien Mulley's Blog
James Corbett suggests we have Irish versions of Foo Camp and Bar Camp. Not a bad idea. There are the usual IIA and IT@Cork style meetings but they generally are very formal with very high suit to seat ratio. Tom... [Read More]

» Someone may pay you to stop telling everybody else your ideas from Damien Mulley's Blog
Rowan Nairn has some good advice on his blog which I found via a comment on James Corbett's post about an Irish Geek get-together. So yes, Rowan advised: Put your ideas out there. They are worth more to you as... [Read More]

I'm in!

Hi there,
I was apparently one of the barcampers with beautiful Irish names (even though my name is not particularly Irish). Barcamp was a huge success, personally and overall. I'll be back in Wicklow from October on and would love to organise a meetup. I've also been going to the SuperHappyDevHouse meetups over here which is another interesting model.
Barcamp has showed how easy it is to make it happen. And, although we may not be Silicon Valley, I'd say we have a sufficient concentration of tech geeks to pull it off.

As per m blog, I'm in. Got a wiki we can all post our interest on?

Thanks for the feedback lads. Let's aim for an Irish version of Barcamp (Pubcamp??) when Rowan gets back so, say late October or early November. How does that sound?
I'll post a Wiki as soon as we decide on a name for this event. Is Pubcamp too naff? ;-)

Right, no point in waiting around. My self and Ed Byrne have started the ball rolling: http://bdminnovate.com/journal/2005/08/23/techcamp-ireland/ I'll blog about it later.

Cheers Piaras ... was just on the e-mail bandwagon there trying to notify a few people : wiki is at http://www.bdmwiki.com/index.php/Tech_Camp_Ireland.
Read more to find out ... and CHANGE whatever you want ... it's not my get-together, Piaras and myself just wanted it to happen ... too many times have we (and others - you know who you are!) suggested doing something but never got round to it. No more excuses!

Great stuff lads and fair play to you for getting the ball rolling so quickly. I'm after adding my name to the Wiki.
The one request I'd have is to move this out of Dublin please - this should be an all Ireland event and therefore geographically central if possible (eg. perhaps Athlone).

Excellent! I was just about to organise something along the same lines, and Thoughtwax pointed me to the wiki URL. Saves me some bother :)
