19,000 Irish start-ups in 2005
Yesterday's Sunday Business Post carried a useful pull-out called 'New to Market' aimed at business start-ups. Among the section on VC, tax, financing, employment law and compliance were interesting tidbits of information such as -
- Over 100,000 jobs were created in 2004 via entrepreneurial activity
- Start-ups most likely to survive are those that 'add value' in the software sectors
- A total of 19,000 companies will be incorporated this year compared with 13,700 in 2002
- The future lies in knowledge-based services
I find the last point the most reassuring as we've long since 'bet the farm' on it.
