From Brand to Franchise (the Web2.0 way)
Yesterday I read an article in the Sunday Times entitled "How do I turn my brand into a franchise?"
"WATCHING a business grow rapidly into a recognised brand is every entrepreneur’s dream. Franchising is a popular route to turning that vision into reality. That’s what three former IT entrepreneurs did with the wine shop they launched in Limerick [Ireland] five years ago."
On the same day Richard MacManus was doing his weekly Web2.0 wrap-up, noticed how Emmet Connolly and myself were thinking of doing an Irish version of TechCrunch, and suggested that there was a franchise opportunity in it for Mike Arrington, editor of TechCrunch. Then, this morning Mike himself very kindly suggested that he could possibly create a sub-domain for us.
Wow! Emmet and myself were honoured and overawed by the responsibility that would be entailed in extending and protecting the TechCrunch brand. A half assed effort just won't cut it when you get an offer like that so we're going to have to mull this one over for a while....

A website franchise! That's an interesting one. As a user I would love the fact that I just need to go to one place to find out both international and local TechCrunch happenings. It could mean a big instant readership for you. However I can see as a new business reporter(for want of a better word) you might want to create your own "space".
