Ideas are a dangerous drug
In the context of that last bit about Korea it was interesting to read this article in the New Statesman -
"... you cannot view finance in isolation. It tends to be seen in a context of bursts of innovation taking place within an ecology within one kind of system. The most innovative environments are places where the ecology is in some kind of alignment. You see it in Israel, Ireland and, to a lesser extent, in Korea. Finance is not just poured in out of context.
Entrepreneurship has much less to do with an aspiration for being in a corporate environment and much more to do with that sense of excitement and wonder that young people have. They are full of ideas and they want to find a workplace in which they can implement those ideas."
Thought provoking stuff. If music is the food of the soul then ideas are the food of entrepreneurship. Of course too much food can make you unhealthy and good ideas on their own are useless. Its all about execution after all, but idea generation is certainly what gives me the buzz. I can literally get hooked on concept development and there's definitely some kind of addictive chemical reaction going on in my head when those light bulbs start sparking. Its a drug, and a dangerous drug for an entrepeneur.

I agree. I ran out of time long ago to fit all the ideas!
But its good. It means you need to start filtering and honing the realy great ideas from the just good ideas. At the start when that chemical reaction and sparking is happening every idea is brilliant. When you are forced to wait before execution and prioritise it in a list, then can you see the real value of it.

Charles Handy spoke of this at the IT@Cork (www.itcork.ie) conference, in his doughnut principle of management. A jam doughnut that is. Where the Jam signifies the creative, softer side of our jobs and the Dough is the targetted focussed deliverables, responsibilities etc....
There is a balance required off course.
Thanksfully, God made us all different and some people are good at the ideas and others are good at implemented them...
we need effective teams to deliver success.
I too have the failing of more ideas that time to implement. I do like seeing my ideas come to life, getting them started and then need help in keeping them going...
nice for our small patch to be noticed worldwide though... Was it an accident?
