BarCamp Ireland, a tremendous success

Damien Mulley has the full list of people we should thank for organising and running a tremendously successful BarCamp Ireland in Cork yesterday. Conor O'Neill and Walter Higgins deserve a special mention.

Indeed the event was was almost too good - I had to toss the coin on several occasions to decide which of the three coinciding presentations I should attend. The ones I did see were Simon McGarr on Digital Rights, John Breslin on the Semantic Web, Bernie Goldbach on Startup Failure, Stephen Downey on AJAX, Conor O'Neill on Microformats and Tom Morris on OPML mashups. Each of them excellent and educational.

I had originally put my name down on the wiki as a 'volunteer' but unfortunately I had to put more last minute preparation into my own talk than I'd anticipated and then had to go rescue my car from Merchant's Quay before the 6pm closing time so I wasn't around to help with the clean up. Apologies for that and thanks again to all organisers and participants.

A great day indeed. Disappointed I didn't get to say hi to you James. You were on my "bloggers I want to shake hands with and find out what they look like" list. (That list needs a snappier title.) I even asked a few people to point you out and each time you weren't around. Oh well. Sorry I missed your talk too. I went to the wrong room and then felt too bad about leaving the talk!

James, how the hell did I not manage to have a decent chat with you? Even worse, I missed your OPML talk which I was looking forward to. Anyone do a recording? Catch you soon.

Good chatting with you James. I presume you were also robbed at gunpoint prior to leaving the carpark that evening :)

James is a bit like the snuffleupagus that way.
I can verify that James does in fact exist and is not a collective hallucination of the blogosphere.

Sorry I missed you too lads. Just as there were too many good presentations there were definitely too many interesting people to talk to (what a great complaint, eh!) and while I managed to have a few great chats with people I'd only previously known by blog I still didn't get around to meeting half the people I'd have liked to.

Yes John, €25 euro for me too, the b******ds. Perhaps they'd be kind enough to sponsor BarCamp next time! ;-)

Walter, snuffleupagus? Jeez, I thought I was more like... well... Batman.... ;-)

Interesting. Every time I turned around to point him out, he had disappeared. Could he be the real Keyser Söze?
