Long tail, short change

Chris 'Long Tail' Anderson says Guy Kawasaki...

"...A best-selling author and genuine tech celebrity writing a thoughtful essay nearly every workday on a top-50 blog for an audience of around 30,000 people/day. And the pay for that is about $280 a month."

Huh? How the hell can I be averaging between 1/7th and 1/6th of what Mr. Kawasaki is earning through AdSense? Something is wrong there surely?

Maybe he isn't using just adsense. Certain types of other ads can be combined.

Also it might be including sold articles and payed interviews.

Maybe Articles licensed + adsence + other ads/affilite + research sold + talks attended + radio interviews + podcast interviews + website interview = 280 a month.

Thanks Mary but I wasn't expressing disappointment that I was 'only' earning between 1/7th and 1/6th of what Guy is earning through AdSesne... rather I was expressing amazement that I was any where near that fraction :)

And, as far as I can determine, the article is referring to AdSense revenue. These guys have some more analysis which helps explain the situation -
