Just wondering out loud if there could ever be a market for aerial taxis in Ireland? I flew Aer Arann on a round day trip between Kerry and Dublin in April of last year and found it such a relaxing way of attending an exhibition in Dublin compared with having to make the 7-8 hour round trip via road.
But Dublin is the hub of most AerArann flights. What about the Cork based businessman who needs to go attend a meeting in Donegal? Could the economics of flying one of the new generation of jet aircaft (like the Eclipse 500) possibly make a business in air taxis a viable proposition in this country?
My father has to fly to Dublin regularly and since Aer Arann have become the only operator on the route his experience has disimproved substantially.
They are ridiculously expensive, about twice the price of when there was competition on the route. Also getting the train is almost quicker now with Dublin Airport being the mess it is.

I thought about it before. There is sort of a business in it. A lot depends on the price of oil. It is likely to be very capital-intensive as a business.
I think having scheduled flights with small craft to private airports is a goer for sure. The cost of getting into that sort of business is actually very reasonable now. There are people doing this in other countries.

Interesting feedback lads, thanks. Antoin you've left me wondering if I should explore this idea further. It's a pity I don't have a clue about the business of aviation.... lol.
