The obvious corollary to Seth Godin's proposition that "All Marketers are Liars" is that All Consumers are Suckers. And may I humbly hold myself up as a prime example of consumer gullibility

Guinness: Yes, I'm a sucker for the black stuff but it wasn't always that way. My introduction to the demon drink was the friday evening, after-match (indoor soccer) pub-crawl and I vividly remember my choice of beer frequently being the fly in the alcohol as regards the potential for a drunken rendition of "10 black pints sitting on a table". I proudly procalimed that there was always one white sheep!
But resistance was futile and I was quickly assimilated, largely as Godin would explain, because the Irish stout fits my world view and tells a consistent story. I like the taste, admire the authenticity and feel a certain amount of national pride as I experience the dry roasted bitterness.
- Nokia: I still need a 'regular' computer to do most of my work but Nokia have sold me on Series 60 as the computer on a phone. After using the Nokia 3650 for 18 months I didn't hesitate for a moment to replace it with a 6630 as soon as I became eligible for a Vodafone upgrade. There are other combinations of mobile gadgetry which could accomplish much of what my 6630 does but few if any would be as elegant or complete.
- Batchelors Baked Beans: I grew up with them and the recipe has never changed (that I'm aware). That's consistency and reliability and it suits my world view of what a canned food should be.
- Toyota: I don't actually own a car at the moment as I sold my last one to raise finance for my business start-up, but when I enter the market again it will definitely be on the wheels of a Toyota. Most of my family are converts at this stage and I can't recall the time time any of them lost money to replacement parts or were left down by a stubborn engine on a cold, frosty morning. Toyota automobiles are not sexy they fit my world view that motoring is about reliability and economy over style.
As a consumer, what are you a sucker for?
