Fergus Burns of ITNorthWest catches a great post by Ross Mayfield about the benefits of a virtual startup structure and net-enabled bootstrapping.
I love Ross' description of his 'office' - "Everyone works from their home office, with a social fabric made of broadband and social tools:"
- Socialtext -- the building and garden
- IRC -- the hallway
- FreeConference.com -- the conference room
- Skype -- the meeting rooms
- IM -- talking over the cubical
- VNC -- peeping over the cubical
- Our blogs -- the front porch
My business partner and I might not use the exact same toolset but considering we've been working together for the last 5 years having met only once in person you can imagine that we employ the same techniques.
Andrew Lark adds insightful commentary on Mayfield's posting -
So, think real-estate free entrepreneuring - no computing real-estate; everything virtualized and available to teams so no physical real-estate needed, work from anywhere (don't have to be close to my own server) so no ties to real-estate.Asbolutely - I've been real-estate free entrepeneuring for 5 years now.
Excellent. Thanks for highlighting this.
