Ever since I started listening to Adam Curry's Daily Source Code over a year ago I knew that we'd eventually have to start doing our own podcasting at GlobalGreyhounds. Why? Well because our customers are a passionate niche audience who have traditionally been criminally underserved by the audio/visual media.
Luckily, my business partner Wendy is blessed with a sexy, radio friendly voice and she puts it to good use in our first show. To be honest its been surprisinly easy to produce a podcast, even for a complete audio recording novice like myself. Here are the ingredients we used -
- Skype-in voice mail for correspondent reports and audience participation
- Audacity for production
- Libsyn for hosting
Very good, are you able to measure how many plays of the podcast there is?
Also are uk & irish members as interested in the USA market? or have you plans for an EU podcast?
Also would it not be an idea to have a simple player on the site for members who are technically challenged? Eg http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_button.html
Best of luck with it :-)

Also of note on the sykpe...
Version releasing later this week allows you to forward your calls to a landline/mobile of your choice, the final link in a great product!

Thanks Brian. Yes, Libsyn give very good stats with a breakdown between direct download and subscribed downloads.
We will be producing 'regionalised' versions of our podcast for both our other main geographpical regions - UK/Ireland and Australia/NZ, but we wanted to use our US market to test and perfect the production first.
We agree that people need to have an easy way to listen so what we did was create our own branded toolbar using http://www.effectivebrand.com/ which includes a little MP3 player. However we also intend to get our own branded version of iPodder.
Sounds good about Skype Robin, I'm looking forward to it.

Do you have production notes where you cite the audio production capabiilites of your computer? I have to get a dedicated sound card for my laptop to eliminate a noise problem that crops up when recording Skype calls.

Well, so far I`ve mainly been involved in just post-production work with Audacity and haven`t done much recording myself so I`m not even sure how good or bad my own DELL Inspiron 510m is in that regard. And to be honest I don`t even know what kind of an audio card is in this computer because it wasn`t a priority at the time of purchase. I`ll see if I can dig up more info.
