The ever intriguing Springwise spots a trend in custom-made avatars but doesn't mention Irish startup myme who help you "Personalize your Blog, IM and Skype profile". As a long time reader of James Kendrick's mobile devices blog I've always liked the self-caricature he uses and while myme also provide a personal cartoon service I was happy to go with the new avatar in the sidebar for the moment because it bears such an uncanny resemblance to me ;-)
My interest in avatars isn't new but has resurfaced as I write my follow up piece to "The Web is not forever.... part 1". I think the concept of a digital representation of ourselves is central to where the web is going, or more correctly, being left behind.
