I've long avoided adding a stats tracker of any kind to my blog in the belief that Six Apart would surely improve that aspect of their TypePad service 'any day now'. Well 'any day now' has long come and gone and still no improvement over the very basic level of reporting they provide.
So, when I got an email from Dublin based StatConter yesterday announcing the launch of their new "Visitor Map" feature, which plots blog visitors by location on a Google Map, I decided to bite the bullet and add the free service javascript to my template.
One day of data collection later and what can I say? I absolutely love it, that's what. And I'm kicking myself that it took me so long to sign up. Already I'm learning so much more about what brings people to my blog and from where that I'm beginning to realize my ideas of what the blog was all about were completely wrong. Hmmm.... maybe there is such a thing as too much knowledge....
Could we make a Grazr node that shares the pubilc stats information of Irish bloggers who avail that info?

I've been using statcounter since christmas for several sites. It's absolutely superb! My only problem is that the free service only provides support for up to 100 log entries... but for a free service its excellent. I must give google analytics a go some day also

I'm using Google Analytics for a while now and its really excellant. I actually dumped Webtrends on-demand for Analytics due to inaccuracies in stats, and a very slow user interface. I still have to try statcounter though.

Thanks so much for trying out StatCounter! Just to mention you get LIFETIME summary stats as well as the detailed analysis of your last 100 pageloads completely free.
Bernie - you can enable public stats by logging into your account, clicking on the "lock icon" beside your desired project name. Ticking the check box for public stats and hitting submit. Hope that helps!

Aodhan, is there anyway of aggregating all the Irish Bloggers stats together so we can see as a group where our traffic comes from, how much traffic we get as a group per day etc etc Just curious really. Love all kind of stats porn.

I use a combination of Google Analytics for detailed records and Mint for instant tracking.

Actually there is - if you all enable public stats you can make a simple script to download the summary stats csv file each day and total them up to give you the total.
