Can't go to Barcamp Ireland, can we change date?

Damien Mulley has news that Barcamp Ireland will be held in Cork on September 23rd. Arghhhh,... I can't believe the timing...... I've a trip to Boston booked for that weekend, to meet up with the Grazr team for some planning. Pretty please can we change date if its not too much hassle?

eBay as investment banker to startups

Of all the chatter surrounding Kiko's reported troubles I found this observation on Venture Voice the most interesting by far -

"One of the most interesting parts of this transaction is that eBay -- along with all the publicity enerated about the auction -- essentially acted as the investment banker for this deal... Can selling companies on eBay scale and create a more efficient market for startups, or is this a one off success caused by a high profile failure?"

Handbags in Limerick

The Limerick Blogger posts a link to the Shannon Foynes Port Company proposed plan for Limerick's docklands. It appears that cool looking skyscraper (by Irish standards) in the foreground has already been given the nickname of 'the handbag'. The other other tall building in the background is the existing Clarion hotel for which I've previously posted a 3D textured model.

Anyway, I've got to say I love this vision for the future of the docklands and it certainly gets my vote.

Wanted: someone to script StatCounter hack

Bernie Goldbach wondered if we could  "make a Grazr node that shares the pubilc stats information of Irish bloggers who avail that info?" Damien Mulley then asked Aodhan Cullen, CEO of StatCounter, if there was "anyway of aggregating all the Irish Bloggers stats together so we can see as a group where our traffic comes from, how much traffic we get as a group per day etc"

To get the ball rolling I've added Bernie's stats and my own to our blog nodes on the Open Irish Directory (see feed grazer panel in sidebar at left). Just follow this path -

News & Media -> Blogging -> Blogger Feeds

I've also made that node public and open so that anyone can edit it on its OPML Workstation wiki page. Translation? You can add the feeds and stats for your own blogs, del.icio.us and flickr feeds, etc. All I ask is that you make your entry under your real name and in alphabetic order.

Now all we need is someone to volunteer for the task of writing a script to download the public stat summaries and compute the overall blog traffic. Any takers?

Online spreadsheet connected to Google Maps

Now this is incredibly cool. Not only could I edit the embedded spreadsheet on the Digital Geography blog, to post a shoutout from Newcastlewest in Ireland, but it was immediately (after a refresh) reflected in the associated Google map. Damn, the mind boggles at the possibilities....

The magic of audio editing

I don't know how Bernie Goldbach did it but he somehow managed to make me sound almost articulate on the latest Inside View podcast, wherein I rambled on about Grazr and feed grazing for a while. Considering we only had our phone conversation last night he must be a whiz at audio editing.

It's great to hear that Bernie is promoting the use of OPML at Tipperary Institute where students of multimedia programming will build and tweak OPML nodes. I'm looking forward to the interesting mashups that'll come out of that.
