A few notes from my meeting with Bernie Goldbach and Conn Ó Muíneacháin yesterday in Limerick
- These guys are passionate, bleeding edge podcasters!
- Bernie was capturing dictapauses throughout using his Sony ICD MX-20.
- What an amazing piece of kit the Sony dictaphone is - you'd never believe the quality of sound achievable without an external microphone and best of all you can pretend it's a mobile phone while recording your thoughts in a public place. That's handy for those of us who are easily emabarrassed.
- Conn has become a bedouin podcaster, recording much of yesterday's episode while waiting at the train station for Bernie and adding the finishing touches from the Clarion lobby, then uploading via his 3G datacard (the hotel Wifi was dodgy)
- The two lads had a great debate about the significance of Feedburner stats. It was fascinating to learn how much intelligence I pass up with my basic/free account
- Conn demonstrated a podcatcher on his Wi-fi enabled Nokia N91 and helped make up my mind - it's time to upgrade from the 6630.
I witnessed the leading edge of remote podcasting and podcatching yesterday. Conn and Bernie are a studio in a box.
The only reason I didn't mic that entire session was because the lobby was too lively for a mic on the table. But I'm making a podcast on the day's events since the three of us have shown we listen to each other's mutterings.

Great meeting you two yesterday - but James, I'm kicking myself. Only when I got home did I realise why I couldn't show you how I browse OPML podcast directories on the Nokia podcatcher application. I had configured it to work on my home network - which uses Irishwan proxy servers to get to the web. Doh!

No worries Conn, I was more than impressed with the phone anyway. It was interesting, was it not, that the three of us use Nokia S60 phones. Looks like they could corner the market for mobile podcasting if you ask me. Imagine if they could stuff the microphone/recording quality of Bernie's Sony dictaphone into the N91 - now that would be some pieced of kit!
