Liam, John and others have been investigating the (virtual) reality behind the hype that is Second Life. One of the problems they've experienced is 'too much real estate, too few people'. That's as much to do with GMT's distance from SLT (Second Life Time) as lack of users I think so I'd like to propose a virtual meeting in the Blarney Stone Irish Bar in the Dublin Sim some day next week, afternoon GMT. The advantage of going along at that time is that the fewer the avatars the faster the rendering.
There's no aim other than to see what it's actually like just to sit down with a group of avatars corrsesponding to people you know in real life (even if only by blog). I'm going to practice a few of those fancy gestures (like shrugging) so don't be offended if my lack of co-ordination suggests I've had one too many from the virtual tap!
If you're on for a bit of Blarney please comment with a time, GMT, that would suit you to teleport.

James - SL keeps crashing on me: world renders around me but then closes sending a crash report dialog box opens, but no debugging messages.
any ideas? I've tried updating my graphics card drivers.

Hmmm, haven't had any such problems Robin but then again I haven't been on much lately. I did however download a new update recently - did you get that?

I've never actually played Second Life and I doubt I will because I haven't booted into Windows in a *long* time. I'm in the real Blarney though!

Haven't had as much opportunity as I'd like to explore Second Life recently - but count me in for this! I'm available 2-4pm, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
It will be timely research, as I'm researching virtual worlds for An Lionra Soisialta Week 6, starting the following Monday.
Not only is "Dublin in SL" an amazing replica of the real thing, it's the only place of any interest I've found in SL. Huge credit is due to the team behind it.

Donncha, it's quite a coincidence that I was actually in (the real) Blarney for my first time in years yesterday on the way home from the Jazz festival in Kinsale. Last time I was there was a Jazz stop-off too.
Conn, let's have the inaugural BlarneyCamp on Thursday 3-4pm if that suits?

After posting that comment I found out that Second Life is available for Linux and the Mac too so I may get around to installing it before Thursday!
