Irish podcasting pioneer Conn Ó Muíneacháin has setup a new company, Edgecast Media Ltd., to build on the success of his first production An Líonra Sóisialta. Now he's researching virtual worlds for a future show and will join us on Thursday for the inaugural BlarneyCamp - a virtual geek meetup in the Dublin sim on Second Life.
Donncha O'Caoimh has discovered that Second Life is available for Linux and the Mac and so hopes to join us too. Tom Morris is also talking of dropping in.
All are welcome - just teleport to 'Temple Bar' on Thursday between 3-4pm and then walk on up the street to the Blarney Stone Irish Bar. We'll be there enjoying a virtual Guinness.

I just tried the Mac version and I have to wonder what's the point? I'll drop by on thursday and maybe it'll click with me then!

Unfortunately 3-4 pm is a bad time for me but I’ll clock in around 8:30pm to see who’s still straggling :)
Which kind of defeats the point I know, but it’s the best I can do.

Donncha, I look at it as "enhanced IRC". From that perspective alone, fair enough: "what's the point?" However, I do feel there is more to it - but I haven't quite got my head fully around it yet!
I hope you can make it Thursday. (Má tá 5 nóiméad le spáráil agat ba bhreá liom comhrá beag a dhéanamh leat faoi do "first impressions of Second Life" - agus é a thaifeadadh don gclár raidio?)
James, is it worth running a Skype conference in conjunction with this, or will we all just type away?

Well my laptop struggles enough to run 'Second Life' Conn without putting it under any more strain! ;-)
Let's play it by ear, starting with text first?

Sorry I didn't get a chance to attend - was really busy battling away with abstruse and barely meaningful scribblings of dead German guys.

No problem Tom. As I've been telling others you'd have been disappointed because of how slow the system was at the time. But the great thing about SL is how easy it is to 'beam down' at a moments notice so there's no reason we shouldn't do this fairly regularly if it turns out to be interesting and/or useful.
I'll let you know when the next one is on.
