It's been a while now since I wrote about the shameful situation of RTE not being available on free-to-air satellite. So in the run up to the election it's time to highlight the issue once again by quoting from Brian Greene's latest post on the matter -
"100’s of thousands of Irish people are funding RTÉ and ALSO pay to see 16:9 DVB signal from sky where a perfectly good FTA option is available to RTÉ, and they also watch adverts on this triple tax platform. While we can watch digital free to air and COMMERCIAL FREE television from the BBC."
I agree wholeheartedly. BBC should not be looked upon as some kind of ‘holy grail’ of license funded TV broadcast. It should be seen as the norm. RTE are not even on the same planet as the BBC.
